IAS increases by 8.4% in 2023

The value of the Social Support Index (IAS) will be updated by 8.4% in 2023, rising to €480.43. Learn about some implications of this increase.

What is the IAS?

The Social Support Index came into force in 2007 and serves as the basis for calculating various social benefits, contributions of workers, pensions, wages and other benefits. Currently, its value is fixed at 443.20€, however, this value will change at the beginning of next year.

Increases in 2023

The IAS has been increased in almost every year since 2017, when the value was set at €421.32.

For the year 2023 it was initially foreseen an increase of 8% compared to 2o22, however, taking into account the most recent inflation figures, it was announced that the increase would actually be 8.4%. This increase translates into a rise in the value of the IAS by around 37.23€, rising from 443.20€ to 480.73€.

Practical implications

As mentioned above, the IAS serves as a basis for calculating some of the State’s social support, such as unemployment benefit, for example. Those currently receiving the minimum value of this support will receive around €552 (1.15 times the value of the IAS) per month, instead of the current €509.68. Those who receive the maximum amount will receive around €1201 (2.5 times the value of the IAS) instead of €1108.
